With our world
facing so many challenges, we are all being called to look deeply at
our lives and make a commitment to discovering what it really
means to be a human-being and work toward supporting a more
sustainable future for ourselves and for all beings.
This program
is intended to help participants develop a sustainable daily
meditation practice and the basic skills of mindfulness
and body awareness, as well as achieve a basic
academic understanding of Zen and Buddhist philosophy and how it
applies to living life skillfully in the 21st Century.
The training extends throughout the year 2009 - 2010 with the
exception of the month of August. Some experience in meditation
would help but is not essential.
We will use the modalities of
academic studies, sitting meditation, guided meditation, yoga,
mindfulness activities, inquiry, exploration of specific themes,
and Spiritual counseling and smaller peer support groups, etc.
to enable us to apply the principles, traditions and rituals of
Zen practice to our daily lives at home and in the work place.
The Programs
will include:
Establishing the fundamentals of a regular seated meditation
practice, and cultivating body awareness and the ability to
bring mindfulness to daily activities.
Exploring habitual behaviors of thoughts, feelings, actions,
and reactions that arise in everyday situations and learning
how to practice with them.
Develop Personal and inter-personal skilful communication
and financial skills that cultivate sustainable, viable, and
loving-kind relationships.
Achieve a
fundamental academic understanding of Zen, Authentic
Spirituality, and Buddhist philosophy and psychology.
Taking the insights we will gain and learn how to express
them and embody them in all aspects of our daily living, and
how the intention of practice supports and empowers us to
grow.
