Practicing in a Community (Sangha) carries with it certain responsibilities. It is important that the proper environment be continually actualized for the practice of the Buddha Way, to which we have dedicated our lives. To this end, we renew our commitment to right conduct by endorsing the following statement:
Statement of the Right ConductPine Wind Zen Center/Jizo-an Monastery is committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for the practice of the Buddha Way. The ground for right conduct is the practice of the sixteen Bodhisattva Kai or Precepts, which are:
The Three Treasures (Refuges)
•I take refuge in Buddha-Nature. Be one with the Buddha, the awakened nature of all beings.
•I take refuge in The Dharma. Be one with the Dharma, the ocean of wisdom and compassion.
•I take refuge in The Sangha. Be one with the Sangha, the community of those living in harmony with all Buddha's and Dharmas.
The Three Pure Precepts•Do not intentionally commit evil (to practice not-knowing thereby giving up fixed ideas about the Self and the Universe)
•Do good (to bear witness to the joy and suffering of the world)
•Do regular acts of goodness for you and others (to effect the healing of myself and others)The Ten Grave Precepts
•Do not intentionally or with malice kill (recognizing that I am not separate from all that is)
•Do not steal (being satisfied with what I have)
•Do not be greedy (encountering all creations with respect and dignity)
•Do not tell a lie with the intention of deceiving another for personal gain (listening and speaking from the heart)
•Do not be closed-minded or ignorant (cultivating a mind that sees clearly)
•Do not talk about others’ faults and errors. Do not blame or shame (unconditionally accepting what each moment has to offer)
•Do not elevate yourself and put down others. Always be humble (speaking what is perceived to be the truth without guilt or blame)
•Do not be stingy (using all of the ingredients of my life)
•Do not indulge anger (transforming suffering into wisdom)
